So you have decided to start a fitness regime but now you are frustrated because there are SO many of them out there? Let me first just say that, congrats to you on getting started and taking that first step in getting on the road to better health and getting more active. The rise in overweight and obesity in this country as well as the overwhelming rates of diabetes, heart disease and other ailments is just disheartening. There are 3 things to think about when starting a new workout routine. As always, if you haven’t worked out or exercised in awhile then it might be a good idea to first check with your doctor before you get started.

1. What Are Your Goals? This is key because if you don’t know where you want to go or what you want to accomplish as a result of your program then you aren’t really sure what or how to get there. Is your goal to just get into shape, lose weight, improve blood work? What is it that you want to accomplish after 6 weeks, 6 months or a year down the road.

2. How Much Time Do You Have? The #1 reason that people don’t try or stick with an exercise program is due to lack of time. There are like 1,440 minutes in a day and they can’t seem to find 30 minutes for themselves? I don’t believe it but many use that as an excuse. Get out your calendar and schedule in the amount of time that you will have at least 4-5 days during the week and go ahead and write that into your calendar. If you are new to exercise, then maybe start with a simple 30 minute walk or less time consuming workout and work your way up.

3. What Interests You? Finding something that you enjoy and look forward to day in and day out is so important to your long-term success. If you are starting a workout routine and hate running or swimming that really isn’t a great place for you to start. Your odds go down the more you dislike something. For instance, I really hate to go to a gym, so I started a home fitness program called P90X a year or so ago. I loved the variety it gave me and because I like to lift weights it suited me perfectly. I did 90 days without skipping a day and it didn’t feel like it was a “chore.” Now, I still use P90X once or twice a week but have also found another Beachbody home fitness program called TurboFire that I absolutely LOVE.

Really taking time to explore yourself using those tips before starting a new workout routine will save you a lot of time, money, and disappointment. You can’t expect yourself to start your workout by running 6 miles a day, 4 days a week and stick with it if you hate running, right? Same thing is that if you want to tone up but you hate weights, you need to find a different activity like swimming or using weighted gloves while you workout. If you need any assistance in finding a home fitness program, I would be glad to help you out!

The home based business industry (aka network marketing, multi-level marketing, or whatever you want to call it) gets such a bad wrap these days and I believe it comes from PURE ignorance of people who know ZILCH about this industry and the power it has for those that believe and act on the opportunity. I want to shed some light on this industry, reduce some of the negativity, and provide the top reasons why I decided to start my own home based business.

Why? Because I want to educate those who say “it is a pyramid scheme” or we are just here to take advantage of other people to make money. SO no true! The #1 reason that people say this is because they don’t understand the first thing about this business and what it is truly about.

1. Creates a level playing field–doesn’t matter what education you have, how many years of experience you have in an industry or what your title is, everyone starts at the same level.Seniority means nothing in this business.

2. Little Investment: Most home based businesses (most legitimate ones) do not require HUGE start-up costs. Most are less than $50-100 to get started. You don’t have to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars to get started and make a $500,000 income (which most businesses take years to achieve). You can invest and start to build a large business right away! You decide the amount of income you want based on your efforts.

3. Start Part-Time: The late Jim Rohn states that where else can you work full-time to pay the bills while also working part-time on your fortune? I started working a few hours a week on my home based business and was earning almost as much as I was full-time in a little over a year.

4. Economic recession proof: This industry is one that has been proven to grow exponentially in times of economic hardship as people are always looking for ways to earn an part-time income or “fire their boss.” Today, any business in health and wellness industry is booming like crazy because of our current state of health.

5. Building a Legacy: Starting my own business was the best thing I could have done to build a better future for my family after I am gone from this earth. I want to leave more for my children and their children than I ever had. You can’t do that working for someone else’s dream and making them all the money. Can you?

6. Pick My Own Teammates: Where else can you decide who you want on your team and those that you will work with? At your current job are you allowed to pick and choose your co-workers? I recruit and train people that fit my business and those that are willing to work hard and those that want to build their own legacy. How awesome is that? Makes going to work much more pleasurable when you get to work with those that you enjoy!

7. Residual Income: If you own your own business in any other industry than network marketing, (construction, etc) do you get paid regardless if you go to work or not? If you build a home for someone, do you continually get paid on that project after it is finished? Work any MLM business for 3-6 years effectively and you will get paid even if you take a few weeks off from vacation. That is true freedom!

8. Based on a 2000 year old truth: “Give and you shall receive.” In my industry, I have tried to stick with the basics of coaching people to better health both physically and financially and in return it has rewarded me, even beyond the income I have received.

9. Immediate Mentorship/Leadership: When I joined my home based business, I was immediately given a coach who was there for me every step of the way. Training, support, and education was so critical to my success. Not many traditional business owners have had that support when they started their business.

10. Income is Based on ME: I don’t have to sit back and wait for an 8% raise each year and when I want to earn more income, I work harder! My boss doesn’t dictate how much money I can make. Most of my work is done online coaching my customers so I can work from anywhere in the world!

We have all used the excuse “I exercise so I can eat whatever I want” hundreds of times but how long can we keep telling ourselves that it is OK, because we exercise? If you want to get actual results from your fitness program, then you must make sound, healthy food choices on a consistent basis. I highlight 3 reasons why we have to stop alienating our fitness program and hindering ourselves from reaching our health and fitness goals.

Splurges add up quickly: One of my biggest downfalls to my diet and exercise plan is splurging. I have the most trouble realizing that even the “little” splurges from my plan are setting me back a little bit at a time. Even though it may not seem like that little tiny piece of chocolate that I tend to grab while I stroll through my office would do much harm (in my mind) it sure does add up, especially when you do it on a frequent basis. Just think…that 50 calorie piece of chocolate added into my diet over a 5 day workweek is 250 extra calories each week, which doesn’t seem to be that but…right? There are 3,500 calories in a pound so in order for us to lose 1-2 lbs (recommended) per week we have to find a caloric deficit of at least 500 per day…7 days a week X 500 calories =3,500 (1 lbs). So even the small stuff ads up! My theory is to “write what you bite” and you will start to notice a huge difference.

Our Bodies Need Balance: The human body is a very complicated thing. To run efficiently, especially during regular exercise, we need a healthy balance of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and all that other good stuff. If your body is relying on refined sugars and carbs for fuel you will not get the expected results from your fitness program. Plain and Simple!

Your Results Depend On It: If you want results from your diet and exercise program you need to put that slice of pizza back in the box. “You are what you eat” and I strongly believe that phrase because it is true. You simply can’t obtain results with exercise alone, your diet is 90% of your results. Keep that in mind the next time you decide to have that candy bar because you are just going to work it off later…you are only setting your results on the back burner even more!

So, it doesn’t really make much sense to eat whatever you want because you exercise or an active person. Do yourself and your body some justice and follow a healthy eating plan while exercising. Take a look at Beachbody’s incredible online support system and their customizable meal planning tools if you need help getting started.
